So….the hike to Hemmed In Hollow was not as expected. It was tough. It made for a hard day that effected our entire schedule, but we learned a lot along the way. We learned that things are not always as advertised. We learned that we can push through physical difficulties much better than we thought. We learned that we can depend on our brothers and sisters in Christ when the going is extremely difficult.
The destination today was stunning in spite of the difficulty. It is an amazing display of God’s creativity. I like to think that somehow, as God spoke things into creation, that he spent a little extra time at certain places on this beautiful earth just so we would just stand there dumbfounded, in awe of who He is. Today was one of those times for me. I was reminded of the words written by singer/songwriter Bob Bennett.
“I’ve sung in mountain cathedrals;
With steeples rising high.
With altars made of evergreen
And windows made of sky.”
In spite of the difficulty of the journey today, I’m glad I got to spend a few hours outdoors today with people I love a lot. Had I known it was going to be that tough, we wouldn’t have gone.
So, we made some alternate plans tonight. The boys from the Boys Ranch are joining us tomorrow night for bowling and pizza. Hopefully, we will get to sing for them too. I’ll work on that tomorrow. Tonight Pike and I grilled burgers (he and Nash joined us this afternoon). Be sure to ask Pike about his “burnt offering” when you have a chance. We enjoyed the company one one another and are getting in bed soon to rest up from the day. Tomorrow, we canoe the Buffalo River.
Thank you for your prayers for us!
Peace and love,
