Ways to Serve
Serving Opportunities at First Baptist
Thank you for your interest in serving! God has uniquely equipped each of us to share in His work on earth, and the church is His primary means of doing so. Below you will find various ministry opportunities, brief descriptions, and the minister to contact. This list is not exhaustive but will certainly aid you in your discovery of where and how to serve!
Preschool/Children’s Ministry (Birth – Grade 5)

Katie Goodrum, Director of Preschool Ministries –
Sunday School Teachers
Prepare weekly lessons and activities from age specific curriculum. Teach and care for children through biblical truths and Bible stories.
Extended Session Volunteers
A continued teaching hour for children Babies-Preschool while parents are in worship. Volunteers use the basket of supplies to retell the Bible Story and do activities with the kids.
Frequency: Once every quarter on Sunday from 8:15-9:30 and 10:45-12:00.
Wednesday Night Teachers for RA’s, GA’s, Mission Friends (Fall and Spring Semester)
Teach about Missionaries all over the world by using the curriculum provided.
Fall Fun Fest Volunteer
Lead provided games, monitor bounce houses, serve food, mingle with guests, and help clean up when Fall Fun Fest is over.
Vacation Bible School Volunteer
Lead rotations, walk children from place to place, provide food for volunteers, greet children and families, help with security during the event, and make VBS a fun, safe experience for children to learn about Christ.
Children’s Camp Volunteer
Spend a week in Denton, Texas at Camp Copass with our children and their guests.
One week in July, Monday morning – Friday afternoon.

Kiosk Helpers
Help families check in on Sundays and Wednesdays at the Welcome Center
Organize Resource Room
Help reorganize the resource room for a few days in December
Birthday Cards:
Write and send cards to children and teachers for their birthday.
Prayer:
Pray for the children and families in our church by name.
Student Ministry (Grades 6-12)
Ryan Welch, Minister of Students –
Sunday Morning Opportunities
Students meet in the Student Life Center for fellowship and Bible study. In these age and gender-specific small groups, adult leaders are responsible for challenging students through Bible study and discussion. Opportunities to serve include greeters, providing breakfast, and small group leaders.
Wednesday Night Opportunities
Students meet in the Student Life Center which opens at 5:00pm. Student Dinner is at 6:00pm, Summit at 6:30pm, and open gym at 7:30pm. Opportunities to serve include greeters, sound team, cooking team, and open gym supervision.
One-time opportunities
There are a ton of one-time opportunities to serve in the student ministry including but not limited to the following: transportation, host homes for Disciple Now, prayer teams, sponsors for youth camps, mission trips, and many more.
Adult Discipleship Ministry

Weekly service on our Adult Sunday School Leadership Team, by teaching, directing, outreach, or other.
College Ministry Leadership
Weekly Sunday School service in our College Ministry to join alongside our wonderful, current leadership.
First Friends
Our Guest Relations team that serves once a month to assist guests and their families on Sunday mornings.
Prayer Room
The First Baptist Prayer Room is located on the east side of the first floor of our main church building. Prayer Warriors come at assigned times to this special room to pray for our church, church members and others, missionaries, city, state, national, and worldwide concerns. If you would like to become a part of this powerful ministry, please call Martha Cook at 903-939-0471, and she will be glad to find a time for you to come pray that fits your schedule.
Van Drivers
We need 3-5 church members, under the age of 70, who can help those who are unable to drive themselves to church. Requires pick up and drop off of members, including special needs adults once a month on Sunday mornings.

Missions Ministry
Clinton Lowin, Minister of Missions –
Tyler Family Assistance Center (TFAC)
As we enter the fall/holiday season, we need your help! We need help on both Tuesday and Thursday mornings with intake and food/clothing “shopping.” (All items are free.) We also need help on Monday mornings assisting with food pickup at the Food Bank and unloading at TFAC. We want to be sure to give our neighbors all the attention, assistance and care they need. No matter your schedule, you may be able to help us meet those needs and share the Gospel.
Orr Elementary
Serve students and teachers by assisting in classrooms, greeting the students as they arrive, helping with reading as well as other subjects, and with special events.
Sewing Hope
Help others through various sewing projects; open to anyone and not limited by sewing skills. There are jobs that anyone can do or learn to do. It is a great time of fellowship and service. Mondays on 4 East in the Craft Room. 9:00-11:30am.
Disaster Response Team
We serve with other churches in North Central Texas to respond to disasters like hurricanes and tornados. Our chainsaw team has been trained by Texas Baptist Men and is prepared to remove trees and debris caused by disasters.
Annual Thanksgiving Distribution
Each year, on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, we distribute sacks of food including meat, that will help families who might not otherwise have enough for the holiday. This involves filling the sacks, preparing the facility for the event, and distributing the food on that Saturday.
Various Mission Trips
Our church has always been active in missions. We have various trips that are part of our Acts 1:8 strategy for local, state, national, and ends of the earth efforts to reach our world for Christ.
Recreation Ministry

Year-Round Volunteer Opportunities:
Recreation Center Front Desk Greeter
Greet people that enter the rec building and handout towels or other equipment. This position will work once a month
Recreation Center Seasonal Volunteer Opportunities with Starters Basketball:
Game Day Door Greeters
Saturdays (January-February) arrive before games to greet families. Commitment is 3 hours for 2 Saturdays, a total of 6 hours.
Halftime Devotions
Saturday, February 19th, 2022, you have the opportunity to share Christ with families through a short testimony during the 5-minute halftimes. Commitment is 3 games – a total of 3 hours.
Administration Needs

Safety Team
Helps ensure members and guests experience a safe and friendly environment while on our church campus - Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights and special events or ministries. Serve on a rotating basis with other team members.
Wednesday Night Meals
Help greet members and guests, prepare and serve meals, and assist with clean up.
Standing Committees
Members in good standing who have held church membership for at least one year are eligible for elected committee service. Standing Committees are comprised of six members serving staggered three-year terms where two members rotate off each year.
Our Standing Committees are:
1. Finance – manages the fiscal matters of the Church.
2. Personnel – assists the Pastor and the Church in matters related to employed personnel administration.
3. Property – manages the real and tangible property of the Church.
4. Missions – coordinates ministry and mission opportunities of the Church.
5. Discipleship – strengthens personal and spiritual relationships within the Church body.
