Part-Time Finance Assistant (16-24 hours)
General Job Description:
The Finance Assistant will support the Financial Administrator in the Finance Office of First Baptist Church, Tyler.
Qualifications:
- Strong ministry perspective related to church business administration.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Careful attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organizational skills. Must be able to work on multiple programs/projects at the same time.
- Ability to prioritize and to be flexible.
- Ability to maintain confidentially.
- Timely reporting of financial information.
- A very basic concept and knowledge of the structure and polity of the church and must be willing to work within those parameters.
- A team player who works well with other members of the church staff and who has proven effectiveness in working with volunteers.
- A committed Christian, possessing the highest degree of personal integrity.
- Intelligent and emotionally stable.
- Preferred: College graduate or its equivalent experience.
- Preferred: Major in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance.
- Preferred: Good computer skills, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel required, and/or other church record software knowledge.
Responsibilities:
1. Accounts Payable:
• Manage vendor files
• Review and distribute bills, verify coding
• Enter AP into module
• Process AP checks
• File check copies and bills
• Review online payments and post to AP module
• Manage credit card statements
2. Contributions
• Cash – input, match batches, deposit
• Online – verify and sync to Shelby
• Weekly reports – compile deposits, enter data, send to Financial Administrator
• Assist members with setup or changes
• Process grant and memorial gifts
• Contribution statements to members
3. Miscellaneous Deposits
• CR for receipts to GL for posting, deposit
4. Miscellaneous Tasks
• Order finance office supplies
• Phone and door operator back up
• Staff reports
• Research past AP vendor requests
• Follow up on accounts receivable
• Assist Financial Administrator as needed
5. Follow the policies and manuals properly.
6. Contribute to the culture of First Baptist Tyler.
7. Fulfill other responsibilities designated by the Financial Administrator or Administrative Pastor/Operations.
Accountability:
The Finance Assistant will report to the Financial Administrator and will be evaluated at least annually by him/her.
